Even though 2020 will be known primarily for the pandemic, the year made us hold on to family, friendship, hope, love and even a bit of nostalgia. In this time of uncertainty, a timeless yuletide anthem takes us back to the basics of spreading joy, sharing traditions, and having meaningful conversations. 

When Donny Hathaway authored and performed “This Christmas” in 1970, he hoped the song would be embraced as the first black Christmas carol.  Now 50 years later, “This Christmas” is recognized as a holiday standard and has become a ubiquitous piece of Americana – everyone knows the song and loves it.  The beloved song has influenced countless diverse musicians including Destiny’s Child, Usher, Mary J. Blige, Lady A, and more recently Pentatonix, Pink Sweat$, and Jess Glynne, and continues to be an inspiration in their lives, careers and community.

  

Grammy®-winning singer-songwriter Donny Hathaway created a classic Christmas anthem that brought communities together and is celebrated this holiday season in a partnership with Volta Charging, which is driving the world forward with its nationwide electric vehicle charging network.   Volta Charging Stations in select cities will promote Hathaway’s first-ever official new animated music video, drawn by cartoonist Lonnie Milsap, in honor of the song’s 50th anniversary.  Furthering community transformation, both Volta and “This Christmas” will continue to have significant cultural impact over the next 50 years.
